Bosch Rexroth’s A6VM axial piston variable motor is a high performance, electronically-controlled hydraulic motor used in industrial applications. The axial piston design and features of the A6VM enable efficient operation, precise control and durability under demanding conditions.

Axial Piston Variable Motor A6VM

How The A6VM Axial Piston Motor Works?

Like all axial piston motors, the A6VM uses a rotating cylinder block and reciprocating pistons. As high pressure hydraulic fluid enters the motor:

  • The inclined pistons are forced outward by fluid pressure, pushing against a swashplate at an angle.
  • This reaction force on the swashplate creates a torque that rotates the cylinder block and motor shaft, delivering output speed and torque.

The Axial Piston Variable Motor A6VM features an electronic servo-controlled swashplate that precisely adjusts the swashplate angle and therefore motor speed. Electronic signals sent to the motor’s proportional valve allow an external controller to precisely command motor operation and performance.

Key Features And Benefits Of The A6VM

  • Variable displacement – The motor’s adjustable swashplate and electronic control enable infinitely variable displacement from 0 to maximum. This provides speed control and braking in one.
  • High torque density – The axial piston design produces high torque relative to motor size, allowing downsizing or performance gains.
  • Proportional control – The servo-controlled swashplate and proportional valve enable highly accurate, linear motor speed responses to commands.
  • Wide speed range – The A6VM enables output speeds from 0 to 3,600 RPM, covering a wide range of applications.
  • Balanced forces – The opposing cylinder layout generates balanced radial and axial forces, extending component life.
  • Service friendly – Features like cartridge seals, oil filters and pressure gauging ports simplify maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Options – Variants offer options like bi-directional pumps, gearing, mechanical controls and more.

The high performance and adjustable displacement of the A6VM enable it to efficiently control speed, torque and power in applications including:

  • Mobile hydraulic systems
  • Material handling
  • Test stands
  • Deep well submersible pumps
  • Marine thrusters
  • Wind turbine yaw, pitch and luffing
